Best Finger Lakes White Wine

Winner: Bet the Farm Winery – Traminette

BettheFarm350

In 2006, Owner/Winemaker Nancy Tisch began Bet the Farm Winery & Gourmet Market with a vision of a place where customers could taste and purchase the best wine and food from the Finger Lakes. Her commitment to quality and to sourcing her grapes locally is evident in the 2011 Traminette. This white grape is a Cornell hybrid of Gewurztraminer. Similar to its parent grape, Traminette yields a wine with floral and lychee aromas, tropical fruits on the mid-palate and hints of spice on the finish. The biggest difference is the crisp acidity on the finish of Traminette. Bet the Farm’s Traminette has consistently won awards since 2007, including Best in Class for the 2009 vintage at the 2010 NY Governor’s Cup. Favorite pairings from Tisch and her staff: Thai and Indian cuisine, Thanksgiving dinner, pork roast or just some curry cashews.

Top Nominee: Billsboro Winery – Riesling

billsboro350

Billsboro Winery is home to 26 acres of rolling hills, vineyards and forest. In August of 2007, local winemaker Vincent Aliperti and his wife Kim took over ownership, keeping the Billsboro name. Together with their three children they plan to continue the vision of a small family-run farm winery. This medium-sweet Riesling evokes aromas of honeyed apple, lemon and toasted walnuts. On the palate, it shows sweet tree fruit with mouth-watering acidity. Try pairing this wine with your favorite spicy take out.
