Chef Debbie Meritsky
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Debbie Meritsky is the owner of the Black Sheep Inn in Hammondsport, NY, an upscale Bed and Breakfast housed in a newly restored historic Octagon house. With a degree from New England Culinary Institute, she has extensive experience in the upscale Food and Hospitality industries, beginning with integral roles in several high-end dining establishments.
Debbie’s entrepreneurial spirit took hold and led her to the creation of one of the first personal chef services in the Cleveland area, My Personal Chef, Inc., fulfilling families’ dietary needs with freshly prepared meals. As demand grew for her services, the scope of work shifted from families to larger venues, including weddings and corporate events. The business operated successfully under Debbie’s leadership for over 15 years, until her relocation to Hammondsport in 2007.
Ms. Meritsky is currently an outspoken member of the Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty, Corning Chamber of Commerce, Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce, Bath Chamber of Commerce, and the Steuben County Historical Society. During her tenure in Cleveland, Debbie was also a productive member of the Jewish Big Brother/Big Sisters program as well as board member, Women’s City Club and the Heights Area Chamber of Commerce.
The development of the Black Sheep Inn was the culmination of a life-long goal for Debbie and has allowed her to bring her creative energy to the Finger Lakes region. Her enthusiasm about the region and what it has to offer is contagious, and she is driven to encourage others to help her further the appeal of the region to travelers. She lives in Hammondsport and shares the joys of the area with her husband Marc.
The Black Sheep Inn is an historic Inn, originally the TM Younglove home, also known locally as the Octagon house. The Inn’s history is deeply rooted in the Hammondsport area and the Inn is a landmark for the region. The Inn offers its guests amenities such as: private en suite bathrooms, the Inn’s indulgent organic breakfasts utilizing local and seasonal ingredients for which Debbie has become known for. The Black Sheep Inn also offer a peaceful retreat for inner growth & outward exploration.
